Grant Proposal Format

Big Image

When you are writing a grant proposal there is a certain format that you should follow if you expect to be considered for the grant. A typical grant proposal will consist of seven components all designed to tie together the overall proposal.

While you can go about writing your grant proposal any way you wish remember that you and your organization are probably not the only ones going after a specific grant. Therefore if you do not turn in your grant in an acceptable format it is likely to get shuffled to the side rather quickly.

The seven components of a proper grant proposal format are:

1. Cover Page: Here is where you will put your organizations name and contact info.
2. Abstract: This one page part of the grant proposal should be an umbrella statement of your entire case and summary of your proposal. This will include information on the problem, your proposed solution, your funding requirements, and your organization’s expertise.
3. Table of Contents: This should have a list of sections and page number that will make for an easy reference for the reviewer who will read over the grant proposal.
4. Organization Background: This will be your opportunity to give a short explanation of your organization, its main focus, your clientele, and any past experience that your organization may have with grant money.
5. Statement of Need: Here you will show why your project is necessary. This includes first identifying the need and it should also include any supporting data or documentation. In your statement you need to decide what facts will best support your project and use them to give the reader hope. When presenting the statement you should avoid using circular reasoning such as saying, ‘We don’t have the funds, we need the funds, and so the funds are the solution.’ Demonstrate instead why the local, state, or even national community needs the solution that you are proposing.
6. Project Description: This is where you will get down to the nitty gritty and show how the project will be implemented. This includes listing all the goals of the project, the methods of how the goals will be met, a time frame, personnel involved, equipment needed, and most importantly your budget. It is extremely important with your budget that you ask for what you need but that you also justify the need as well.
7. Authorized signatures: At the end of your grant proposal you will want to have your organization’s authorized signatures. Before you can do that you must first determine who the authorized signers are. Usually this duty falls on the person within your organization who is responsible for the signing of all contracts.

One the grant proposal is submitted in the proper format it is then just a matter of playing the waiting game.

There is plenty of money that will be made available this and every year via Government grants and if you and your organization can truly make a difference in the world then by all means go for it. Just be sure that you follow the proper grant writing format so that you have the best chance possible of obtaining the grant you are after.
